Backyard Update

Hey ya’ll! Sorry it has been a while since I last updated. I have been struggling with some technical issues with the blog for the last week. I am so glad they are fixed now so I can share with you a fun update I recently did to my backyard.

My latest update was to add a nice big flower bed right under the windows of my backyard windows. My landscaper was a little bit slow getting it together – it seems everyone has the same idea lately of planting new flowers so it took some time to get him scheduled which meant some of the flowers didn’t survive before they got planted.

The cobblestone was added behind the flower beds to help with drainage.

I really love how the cobble stone looks when wet and my favorite spot aside from the flowers is the spot where the down spout pours into the cobblestone.

So that wraps up this backyard makeover (for now!) I hope to have another backyard makeover to share in the near future.

Latest Crushes – Small Artwork

This week I stumbled across 2 artists that create some amazing artwork that I had to share. The first artist creates beautiful embroidered portraits and vignettes of plants such as below. Her attention to detail is what makes these one of a kind art worth the price tag.

These beautiful waterscapes are hand painted and encapsulated into these glass convex containers. The end result is this illusion that you are looking into tiny ocean within the frame.

Blueberry Almond Bread

2016-03-02-20.08.01-1Today I wanted to share with a new recipe I have been working on – Blueberry Almond Bread. This idea came about after looking online for other breads to make. I usually make a loaf of one of these breads on Sunday and we grab a slice on our way out the door during the week. It is a great alternative to packaged bars but it is also very yummy! Hope you and your family enjoy it as much as we do 🙂

1/2 c. oil
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 cup of milk
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
2 c. flour
1 c. chopped fresh or frozen blueberries
2 TB. almonds (for topping)

In a bowl, combine the oil, sugar, milk, eggs and almond extract. Set aside.

In another bowl, combine the salt, baking powder and flour. Add to the oil mixture, stirring JUST till incorporated.

Fold in the blueberries. Pour batter into a greased 8″ x 4″ loaf pan. Sprinkle with 2 TB. of sliced almonds.

Bake @ 350° for 55-65 minutes, till middle is set (test with a toothpick). Cool 5 minutes in the pan, then take out of pan and place on a wire rack to cool completely.

My Fixer Upper Inspired Entryway

As an avid Fixer Upper fan I have been obsessed with the latest season and inspired more than ever to makeover my home. My two favorite houses for Season 3 so far have been Chip 2.0 (Episode 9) and the Peach House (Episode 10). Both houses embrace a simple modern rustic feel making the environment feel organic and relaxed which is why I immediately fell in love with them.

One part of the Chip 2.0 house that I really loved is the entry way of the house. They installed this lovely board and matten molding along with a simple bench and pillow. I also loved how the picture frame was placed on the wall. Normally I would argue that a picture frame should not go there because it is simply not practical. But you know what it works and thus far I haven’t had a problem yet.

I am obsessed with this pillow – the texture of it feels like a handwoven rug.

I took this picture one morning I was on a walk – it was a glorious sunrise!
